27th AICCER National Congress: growth, innovation and sustainability at the core of the 2026 edition

The 27th National Congress of AICCER took place in Rimini, confirming its role as a key event in the national and international ophthalmology landscape.

An event that AIM Group International has supported continuously since 2007, both as Association Secretariat and Congress Organizer, contributing to its growth and long-term development.

Record-breaking growth

The 2026 edition welcomed 2,464 participants, marking:

  • +6% vs 2024
  • +3% vs 2025
  • +54% vs 2019 (pre-pandemic)
  • +32% vs 2022 (return to in-person events)

These figures confirm the congress’s increasing relevance within the scientific community.

High-level scientific content

The program featured innovative and highly specialized content, including:

  • live surgeries from San Marino, covering both standard and complex cases
  • the “Morselli” Video Contest, dedicated to surgeons under 35
  • the “Curtain Up on the Doctor–Patient Relationship” session, focused on communication in ophthalmology
  • the AICCER Young Focus, with hands-on training courses for the next generation

Participant experience and local engagement

Strong attention was given to the overall participant experience, with initiatives designed to highlight the local territory. Among them, the “Romagna Mia” evening featured 40 traditional dancers and live music, creating an engaging and authentic networking moment.

A strong commitment to sustainability

The 2026 edition stood out for its sustainability efforts:

  • ISO 20121-certified venue
  • waste reduction and use of sustainable materials
  • a fully paperless congress, with digital program and dedicated app
  • responsible catering and food recovery initiatives
  • promotion of sustainable mobility
  • involvement of local suppliers

Social impact: “Cycling for Children”

Among the special initiatives, the “Cycling for Children” project actively engaged participants in a charitable activity: the energy generated through cycling was converted into a donation to the Sight for Kids program, supporting eye care services for children in underserved communities worldwide.
